T-Rex Birthday

This card was so much fun to make but even more fun to give! I used a Silhouette cut file, #204997, by Jennifer Rush to make this fun shaped card. The edges of each piece are ink blended and the top layers are popped up on foam tape for dimension. The birthday hat was a different cut file, Party Puppy #40556, by Rivka Wilkins. I cut an extra base layer of the dinosaur, scored it a half inch from the top, and attached it by that half inch to make it a shaped card. Inside I stamped a sentiment from My Favorite Things Birdie Brown Greetings Galore set in Versamark and heat embossed it with Brutus Monroe Alabaster white powder.

This card goes to one of my “adopted” kids, so for fun I used a happy mail style stamp from the Stamps of Life set called Stamped 4 You. We used a white gel pen to write a personal note to the recipient. True story… as a Junior in high school, my “adopted” son showed up to band camp in an inflatable T-Rex costume 😁🦖. Always the class clown and prankster! It was the last day of grueling training and practice, and his stunt got 300 kids through the day with a smile. Love this boy!!! So now you know why I had to make a dinosaur birthday card for this kid!

Happy Birthday techie card

Some of you know that I have only one child, a son that means more to me than life itself. What you may not know about me is that I also have almost a dozen “adopted” children, the result of being Band Mom to a high school marching band. Though the 4 years I gave my time, blood, sweat, and tears to the band I became close to more than 300 of the best teenagers / young adults you could ever meet. And of those, there are some who have become family to me. This card goes to one of my adopted sons who just turned 19. I am especially proud of this young man as he is the first in his family to graduate high school, and he is currently enrolled in college to obtain a degree in Computer Sciences. To commemorate the occasion I created this card for my boy Jacob.

This card was difficult to photograph between the 2 colors of mirror card stock and the piece of acetate for the window! Forgive me for posting several shots so you piece together what this card looks like IRL!

MisplacedMojo.com MisplacedMojo.com

The card design is a Silhouette cut file, #78049, by Snapdragon Snippets. I used green mirror card stock for the base which shines up through the green top layer to make it look even more like a computer motherboard. I used silver mirror card stock for the “happy” to contrast with the rest of the design. For an inside sentiment I used two stamps from My Favorite Thing’s Anything But Basic Birthday Wishes set (mouthful!!!). As part of the Silhouette design, there is a mock thumb drive which I cut from matching card stock and personalized with a “J” for Jacob. I tried to find one of those ball and chain key chains to attach it with but alas, I couldn’t find one in the junk drawer so I used silver cording instead to attach it.

Hey there {PIN}spirational Challenge

MisplacedMojo.com

Today’s almost one layer card is brought to you with the help of inspiration from {PIN}spirational Challenges and Pink & Main. I used the Pink & Main Sweet Bouquets stamp set for both the image and sentiment. I was going for a fall bouquet of mums in traditional fall mum colors, which I love putting on my porch and clipping flowers for a small vase in the kitchen. This photo is close to what I mean, though I’ve never put them in a pumpkin. That looks beautiful!

your_fall_flower_guide_to_mums_teleflora_country_pumpkin

THe panel is die cut with a stitched rectangle die from Simon Says Stamp. I watercolored the image with Tombow markers and a waterbrush. I had fun trying to add shading and details, though I’m not sure how well you can see them in the photo. The challenge photo is gorgeous and I hope to play with this inspiration again before the time runs out. Ah, time is always the issue!

Trick or Treat Smell My Feet

MisplacedMojo.com MisplacedMojo.com

I thought this stamp set was so fun! Tuesday Morning recently had a bunch of different (apparently un-named) Halloween sets from American Crafts for super cheap. This particular set had an extra large sentiment… so large I had to cut it in half to make it fit an A2 card!!! This is the first half and the second half is inside. The background is ink blended with Wilted Violet and Black Soot Distress Oxide inks. The sentiment is heat embossed with Wow Silver Sparkle embossing powder. The card was finished off with some purple and silver sparkle bling that Want 2 Scrap used to sell at Expos years ago that I’ve slowly been using up. I used a couple other images from the same stamp set on the inside with the same embossing powder. I love a bold graphic sentiment, don’t you? Makes the rest of the card simple since the focus is on the sentiment!

Stamplorations Bloomdala Bliss

I was inspired by the current CAS Colour and Sketch challenge and thought this image would be perfect! I colored this with my Prismacolor pencils in colors that matched the challenge colors, I love these colors as an alternative to traditional Fall colors! I have another idea for this color combo… we’ll see if it comes to fruition!

I’m very frustrated that I can’t seem to get a picture with an accurate portrayal of the true colors. This photo makes the blue look royal and the yellow much brighter than it is in reality. I need to bust out my other camera and try again during the day. If I get a better pic, I’ll be sure to update the post!

Sweet Thing – Less Is More #401

MisplacedMojo.com

I was totally inspired by the current challenges at Less Is More and Splashy Mix to make this card. I knew I wanted a stencil background and was super pleased to find this one, from The Crafter’s Workshop, called Kaleidoscope… however, I thought it resembled citrus wedges! I used Broken China Distress Oxide with a blender through the stencil to cover only a half circle on the cardstock and faded it out. The orange slices are from an old (2000) Stampin’ Up! set called Citrus and Such. The images were stamped with Ripe Persimmon Distress Oxide. I thought stamping the sentiment in black would be too harsh given there were no black lines in the image or background, so I opted to go with Versa Clair Morning Mist, a midtone gray. I’m still not sure it was the right color but like the card either way. What color would you have used for the sentiment?

MFT Color Challenge 122 – Prehistoric Fun

Here is my card for the current MFT color challenge and the inspiration for it:

MisplacedMojo.comMisplacedMojo.com

I used the MFT Cloud stencil to create the background with Distress Oxide inks. Then I stamped images from the MFT Prehistoric Fun stamp set. I watercolored the images with Tombow markers in coordinating colors. I intended to use the coordinating dies, but I made a mess of the outlines as I still have issues controlling the amount of water in my brush. I ended up fussy cutting them to get a clean image. I outlined all the images with a black marker and positioned some flat to the card front and others with foam tape for dimension. The hills were cut with Simon Says Stamp Stitched Slopes and Hills dies. I used Wink of Stella to sparkle up the clouds and dinosaur spots, which were also given a glossy coating with Nuvo Glaze, as did the lava on my volcanoes.

Considering I was initially stumped by this color combo, I have yet another card using it, so stay tuned for take 2!

MFT Summer Camp Day 1 & MFT Color Challenge 121

MisplacedMojo.com MisplacedMojo.com

Take 2 on Day 1 of MFT’s Summer Camp! This is another fully watercolored card, painted with the 36 color set of Gansai Tambi’s. I need to use these more often cause I just saw they now offer a 48 pan set but I refuse to buy it (yet) with so much paint left in this set. Today’s card is made with MFT’s Funky Flowers, painted in colors to match the current MFT Color Challenge 🙂 2 for 1 baby!!! I hand painted the background again, though this time its very simple to let the flowers shine! The flowers were fussy cut and popped up on foam tape. I added Nuvo drops to the flower centers for extra dimension. The sentiment is from another great MFT set, Birdie Brown Greetings Galore!

MFT Camp Create 2019 – Day 2 – Remarkable Resist

MisplacedMojo.com MisplacedMojo.com

Today’s camp activity is called Remarkable Resist. For my card I used MFT’s Wavy Coloring Book Background with Versamark and platinum embossing powder. I love this background, especially for summer because it looks like waves in the ocean to me. Once that was heat set, I used several shades of Zig Clean Color Brush Markers to scribble in color. I wasn’t completely random with the coloring; I used certain shades for certain shapes throughout. I guess I’m a control freak! But then after color coding the image I sprayed the dickens out of it with water to blend the colors. Once dry it was die cut with a stitched rectangle die from Simon Says Stamp. The sentiment is MFT’s Simply Hello Dienamics, cut from silver mirror card stock. I added a few mirrored dots from my stash as a finishing touch. Here’s the close up:

MFT Summer Camp Day 1 – Watercolor

MisplacedMojo.com

MisplacedMojo.com MisplacedMojo.com

I’m making an effort to participate in MFT’s Summer Camp every day this week. I had so much fun with the first day’s event of watercolor, you may see more than one card from the effort! This card, using MFT’s Friends in the Forest, is my favorite!!! I used my 36 Gansai Tambi watercolors on Arches cold press paper to create a background freehand. I used greens to create loose trees, a pale blue wash for the sky, and blues and purples to create what I intended as snow drifts but it also kinda looks like a pond iced over. Either way, its a place for my critters to gather and share in the winter fun! I also used the same watercolor set to paint the stamped images, which were then fussy cut when dry and popped with varying thicknesses of foam tape. The sentiment is from the same stamp set and stamped directly on the card front, which I die cut with a Simon Says Stamp stitched rectangle die. As a finishing touch I added Wink of Stella to the snow/ice, which is notoriously difficult to photograph! I’m hoping you can see it on one of the close up pictures. So frustrating!!! I debated about flicking white paint for falling snow and couldn’t bring myself to do it for fear of messing it up! This was so much fun to create!!! I made multiple backgrounds while I had the paint and watercolor paper out so I’m going to see what else I can pull together this week!

Watermelon Card Set

Quick post today with a card set inspired by Chari Moss in a set she created for Lawn Fawn. Here are side by side pictures, first mine than Chari’s. She used dies to make her seeds, putting black paper behind the pink to use the negative space. She also used dies for most of the sentiments. I didn’t have anything suitable dies, and for my seed I used one of the first stamp sets I ever bought, KI Memories (remember them?) called Garden. Many times I almost purged this set as I’ve never used it, but it’s small and takes so little storage space, and “you never know when you may need it”. I was vindicated! Today just made purging anything from this point on even harder! LOL

Misplaced Mojo

The Misti was invaluable in the repeat stamping of these cards. All the cardstock came from the scrap pile too. Gotta love that! The sentiments are from 1) MFT’s Friends in the Forest, 2) The Stamps of Life’s Stand Up 4 Sentiments, and 3) Technique Tuesday’s mini set You’re So Sweet, all used for the first time as well. Rarely do I ever case a card so quickly or so closely but I thought these would be quick and easy. Thanks to the repeat stamping, it was neither but still fun to make!

Sitting Here Thinking of You with Hero Arts

Misplaced Mojo

My mom passed away 10 years ago. Seems like it was just yesterday. Certain dates and events are especially hard for my dad now that she is gone. Their anniversary is coming up, and while this isn’t “exactly” a sympathy card, that really is what this is. Thinking of you in your time of need and loss. My mom always taught me to pick sympathy cards that are in muted colors as she felt bright cards were too garish for the occasion. I see some cards posted by other crafters, and I think to myself… If you could change the sentiment to Happy Birthday and it work, than your card is too cheerful to be a sympathy card. But that’s just me. Coincidentally, my house is decorated in grays and blacks, so this looks close to where I might actually sit to think of someone dear. And conveniently A Blog Named Hero’s challenge this month with Hero Arts products is Sympathy. Good timing!

The stamps are from Hero Arts Wishing You Were Here, and I watercolored the images with Tombow markers and a waterbrush. The embossing behind the card front is from Lifestyle Crafts Woven embossing folder. The card front and mat were die cut with Pink & Main’s Rounded Rectangles dies.

Happy Birthday Art Impressions!

As part of the celebration of Art Impressions 32nd birthday, their monthly challenge this month is Birthdays! I chose to make a card with their Birthday Wishes stamp set. I paired it with a color combo from the July Daring Card Makers challenge, though I didn’t follow their challenge requirements, so I’m not submitting to them. I did a little bit of masking on the balloons, and then colored all the images with Tombow markers and a water brush. If it were not for the card panel being matted on a kraft card base, this would be a one layer card.

Misplaced Mojo Art Impressions Blog

My dad and brother both have January birthdays, which I am notorious for not acknowledging with a card. I think I go into a post-holiday coma or something. LOL  Anyway, I decided to be proactive and make their cards early.

Missing You Always beach scene

This card is hopefully going to serve two purposes… one, to tell my friend I miss her, and two, for her to re-purpose and send to her daughter 🙂

I was inspired by a color combo for the current challenge at Crazy 4 Challenges. And there are so many beach and summer challenges this week, so I had plenty of motivation to create this little scene.

MisplacedMojo.com MisplacedMojo.com

I stamped the images from Stampin’ Up’s By The Seashore in Impression Obsession hybrid inks. I really love their assortment of colors and how there are three shades of each color, perfect for layering stamp sets. Here I only used one shade on each. The water was created by using Tattered Angel glimmer mists (remember those?!?) and tearing the edge of the paper to reveal the white core, which I then coated with Wink of Stella. The card base is kraft, and to create the look of sand I dotted the lower corner with three shades of alcohol markers, a white gel pen, and my trusty Wink of Stella. The sentiment comes from the Brushstroke Expressions set from My Favorite Things and was stamped in Tree Branch Archival Ink in case the glimmer mist gave me any troubles. I realized (not for the first time) that you can never have too many inks 🙂 The shells are glued flat to the card but the crab is popped up on foam tape for dimension. Debated about adding Nuvo drops but I need this card to make it through the mail twice, so I decided against it. My friend can add bling on her end if she chooses. So much more shimmery IRL!

MisplacedMojo.com MisplacedMojo.com

The inside of the kraft card is lined with 2 white panels, the bottom glued down permanently, and the top with removable glue. My message will be on top but she can remove it to reuse the card for her daughter.

Ice Cream Hugs

My bestie isn’t a chocolate or cookie girl, so I can’t send her a Hershey bar or homemade chocolate chip cookies to show her I care. Her vice is ice cream, and *that* you unfortunately cannot ship 600 miles away and hope it will hold on a porch in the middle of Florida. Next best thing? An ice cream card!!!

Misplaced Mojo Misplaced Mojo

The images are from Close To My Heart’s Ice Cream Dream stamp set. Once again I used my Prismacolor pencils to color the images and fussy cut them. I added Wink of Stella to the brightly colored areas, and then I added Nuvo Crystal Glaze to several areas for a glossy look. The hugs sentiment is a Pink and Main die, cut twice and layered. It too has both Wink of Stella and Nuvo Crystal Glaze. I decorated the inside with the sentiment from the same stamp set. The paper pieced hill was cut with a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Slope die, though the stitching is hard to see in the pictures. As a final touch, I added an Action Wobbler to the little dog, who is very excited to get an ice cream cone!

Please indulge me with some close ups… I am really pleased with how this came out 🙂

Bouquet of Thanks for a Friend

MisplacedMojo

So, my BFF is about to face the biggest challenge of her life thus far… her one and only child, now 18 years old, is leaving for college and not only that, she’s leaving this weekend so she can attend a summer session. She’s going to need something… anything… to make her smile when she gets home from dropping her daughter off at the university. I hope this will do that, though I know it won’t… can’t… fill the void. There is only so much I can do from 600 miles away.

For this CAS card, I was inspired by the CAS Colours & Sketch Challenge for the choice in colors, and I think this regal color palette will appeal to my bestie more than the card from a couple days ago. The stamp and sentiment is from SSS’s Bouquet of Thanks, and I love the large image that required no masking. Once again, I used Prismacolor pencils to color my image (greens 908 & 911, purples 932 & 1008, and corals 921 & 922). I find pencils are great for what I call Couch Crafting… a way I can remain crafty while hanging with my family in the living room. My couch crafting has gotten a little complicated this week with the addition of a new puppy to our family, but so far the only thing she’s gotten into were my cup of pencil shavings!

CAS Christmas card with Close to My Heart

Today’s card is super quick and CAS. This card was made with the CTMH present stamp from the Jingle Borders stamp set and the sentiment from their Say It In Style set. I chose to go with non-traditional colors for this Christmas card for the Happy Little Stampers Christmas Challenge as well as a couple others listed below. I colored the image with Prismacolor pencils (932, 994, 913, and 992). The border stamp set had 4 to choose from but I selected the presents for the CAS Christmas Challenge. Yay me! I got my second holiday card completed for this year 🙂

MFT Birthday Challenge – You’re How Old?

*Cough, cough* Whoa, sure is dusty around here! Dusting off the blog today to post a card I made for the monthly MFT Birthday Project Challenge.

I used the MFT Balloon Strings background stamp and heat embossed in Wow Fine Silver embossing powder. I used MFT Block Happy Birthday Dienamics to cut the letters from silver Glitter paper from DCWV. I created the balloons from the MFT Birthday Balloons Dienamics, and I popped up every other one on foam tape for dimension. I didn’t have any number stamps or dies from MFT, so I cheated and used the Avery Elle Numbered Balloon Elle-ments dies for the 60, also cut from the same glitter paper.

I made a pop up on the inside with 3 more balloons spelling the recipient’s name. The letter B was taken from the same MFT Block Happy Birthday Dienamics used on the front, but since “Happy Birthday” doesn’t have an O in it, I had to get creative. The off cut from the 6 was a circle, but it was too big and wouldn’t have looked right without the middle hole. I was able to take the 0 (zero) of the same Avery Elle Numbered Balloon Elle-ments dies and line the hole it cuts over the hole cut from the 6 to get the O. It created an O in the perfect size to match the MFT letters! I love when you can use your stash creatively like that! I added a computer generated sentiment that I really wanted for this card and didn’t have in a stamp. My brother, who was the one turning 60, used to argue in his youth that age is just a number and you wouldn’t feel old unless you thought you were old. Well, with age comes wisdom… and aches and pains, lol. I think he was feeling every bit of 60 on his birthday 🙂 I think I made it worse by reminding him that my son, his only nephew, is graduating in a few months. That makes me feel old too, and I’m 12 years younger than he is!!! My brother, that is 🙂

While I had all my supplies out, I made sure his mailman would know how old he was too. I had a tiny 60 stamp from the PTI Haunted Headstones Sentiment set (retired) and used it in ink colors that coordinated with my balloon cardstock. The envelope art is from the Pinkfresh Happy Mail set (also retired).
