I was totally inspired by the current challenges at Less Is More and Splashy Mix to make this card. I knew I wanted a stencil background and was super pleased to find this one, from The Crafter’s Workshop, called Kaleidoscope… however, I thought it resembled citrus wedges! I used Broken China Distress Oxide with a blender through the stencil to cover only a half circle on the cardstock and faded it out. The orange slices are from an old (2000) Stampin’ Up! set called Citrus and Such. The images were stamped with Ripe Persimmon Distress Oxide. I thought stamping the sentiment in black would be too harsh given there were no black lines in the image or background, so I opted to go with Versa Clair Morning Mist, a midtone gray. I’m still not sure it was the right color but like the card either way. What color would you have used for the sentiment?
ETA: This card was selected as one of the Top 3 at the Unicorn Challenge blog!!!
I’m submitting this card to the following challenges:
- Less is More #401 – Tangerine, Aqua & White
- CAS on Friday #162 – Use a Stencil

- Retro Rubber Challenge #117 – Anything Goes (SU! 2000)

Thank you!!! I was truly surprised to see not many people used the orange as their inspiration! If only I had more time to play, I have so many ideas for this color combo!

I promise you, I come by the blog name honestly! More often than not I find my mojo at the bottom of laundry basket. A bad day of crafting is always better than a good day of laundry, right? Nothing like household chores to make me want to get lost in the craft room! Now tell the truth, was the “appealing” pun intended about the citrus??? 🙂 Thank you for the kind words on my card! And I love supporting a blog that encourages crafters to use the not so new items in our stash!!! I’ll be back to play again soon 🙂

What a superb card Karen! A beautiful use of the challenge colours and a great image too. Just a reminder for the future that at Less is More we have a limit of 5 challenge entries including our own challenge for you to be considered for a showcase. However I’m really pleased you gave us the opportunity to see this wonderful card.

Aw, dangit! I always forget that!!! The majority of challenges have limitations for entries, not number of challenges you can submit to. I’ve been following LIM for years and am frequently inspired to participate, though I don’t always make the deadline 😉 I either need to unsubscribe from your posts or make myself a BIG note somewhere!!!

This stencil design was perfect for your oranges theme, and I think you were right with the soft grey for the sentiment, it works brilliantly. Such a shame you’ve linked up to too many challenges on this occasion, please do join us again.
Thanks so much for sharing with us at Less is More, Anita x

I always forget you have that rule! Dangit!!! Most challenges have rules about how many entries you can submit, but you guys are the only one that have a rule about how many other challenges you can submit to. I can’t seem to remember that!!! Sorry!
