Birthday Cards with Jan’s Digi Stamps

You can never have enough birthday cards, and usually you need way more than you have! I decided to rectify that equation today with cards made from the Birthday Friends 2 set from Jan’s Digi Stamps. Jan has several sets in different themes using the 2 characters in this set, Eunice and Gertrude. Now, the sets come with both b/w and color images, and Jan’s colored versions have both of these lovely ladies sporting gray hair. I will use this image that way for some of my older friends, but as most of my friends are hovering just above or below 50, I thought it was more appropriate to give these ladies a reprieve on old age and color them to be a bit younger! LOL  I mean, we’re all getting old, but not *quite* that old yet!

On to the 1st card! I used the b/w image of the ladies and watercolored it with Tombow markers to coordinate with the patterned paper I selected from my stash. Take note of the drinks in the ladies hands and then check out the inside sentiment! I really like having the flexibility to resize both the image and sentiments from digi sets to fit my card design. This time I printed the front sentiment close to the image to make it one piece but I also like making fishtail banners with the sentiments too. I like to use craft foam to pop up the focal images on my cards. I added a scrap of the patterned paper to the inside and included another sentiment from the set. Note that the ladies are holding margarita glasses in the image. I thought the inside sentiment was a hoot!!!

Included in the same set are accessory images and I decided to play with those too! For my 2nd card, I used the b/w version of the cake and added another sentiment. This sentiment comes in both colored and b/w, which I didn’t realize until I printed the b/w version. The colors I used are very similar, but the b/w versions always give you the opportunity to coordinate the colors to whatever paper or background you are using. This was super easy to color. It actually took me longer to pick my patterned papers! I die cut the image with a Sizzix dotted square die. I decorated the inside of this card with scraps of the matching papers and another sentiment from the set, also watercolored with Tombow markers. The balloon is yet another image, which I sized to fit with the sentiment. With as many images as I used, I still didn’t get to use all the images and sentiments!

So there you have it, 2 fast yet simple cards using the same set. This is one of those digi sets you can use over and over again.

  2. Both of these are fabulous, Karen, and I especially like the way you gave both Eunice and Gertrude ‘younger’ hair. 😀 I, myself, am in the category of “old” and should have gray hair but my hair is still very much deep auburn with only a few scattered gray hairs. I guess I take after my mom who passed at 86 and was blessed with very few gray hairs which only showed if you were her hairdresser, brushing her hair.

    • Auburn!!! I never would have guessed! Its not fair… you’ve seen a recent picture of me however your blog photo would have you think it was the 1800’s when it was taken. One day you will have to share the story behind that photo!!! I envy you on the gray hair, or lack thereof. I have gotten blond hilites for years now and have been able to convinced myself that I didn’t have gray yet, or if so it was just a stray. Yeah… with hairdressers closed for 2 months now, my roots are telling another story 😆

  3. These are great! I needed a good chuckle today! I think I spend more time picking out colors and paper than I do putting the card together too. These are great birthday cards and super water-coloring too. So happy you joined us at Seize the Birthday!
