Christmas Advent Calendar

Today I’d like to share an advent calendar I made for my son.

This baby is a substantial size… about 11″ x 11″. It was created from a Lori Whitlock file available on the Silhouette online store. And while there were a couple curses muttered under my breath during the construction of the frame, the rest came together quickly and easily. Thankfully there was a video tutorial available on Lori Whitlock’s site, and was very helpful in getting this thing together. I love that the boxes fit snugly enough that you can remove one without them all shifting, but its not so hard to remove it or put it back. The boxes are about 2″ x 2″ x 1″, and are perfect for a few Hershey kisses, a Lego minifigure, or a fun size candy bar. I wrap the items in a square of tissue paper to keep a certain boy from peeking in the holes for the finger holds. The cut file for the decorative fronts are included, though I picked my own font to use for the numbers. The giant paper bow on top was another Silhouette file, and was super easy to make.

I’m kinda funny about needing to change up Christmas decorations every few years. Because I knew I wouldn’t want to remake the whole project every year, I decided to use repositionable adhesive for the patterned paper fronts and numbers so I could change it up.  That frees me up to use it as a countdown calendar to other events too. I hope you like the project and challenge yourself to try a 3D cut file.  There are so many cool ones to choose from, and until through today all shapes are 50% off! I might just have to try another 😉  And hopefully my mojo has gotten a kick in the butt cause it went AWOL the last couple weeks!

I’m entering this project in the following challenges:
