Same Set Syndrome Hop with Not2Shabby

SSS square graphic

Welcome to the July hop for Same Set Syndrome, where we hi-light a small stamp company each month, showcase some of their great sets, and then have a giveaway! Not2Shabby will be giving away a $25 gift certificate to one lucky commentor from all the stops on the hop! You should have arrived here from the very talented Jessica Mcafee, and next on the hop is incredible LeeAnn McKinney. Don’t worry, I’ll link to her again at the bottom of the post to make it easy to continue on the hop!  OK, if you haven’t heard of Not2Shabby yet, please allow me to introduce you! In addition to having their own line of stamps, the Not2Shabby shop is your one stop shop for products from all manufacturers! They carry stamps, dies, stencils, paper and more! Today, I am using a fun Not2Shabby set called Summer Time Buddies to make this scene card.

I started off heat embossing all the images, fussy cutting them out, and watercoloring them with Tombow markers. If you follow me, you know I have a slight obsession with my Tombows! To create this little beach scene, I tore kraft paper to create the beach and I used a dye ink pad to color a sheet of vellum for the water. I hand cut a piece of coordinating paper for a beach towel. I used a background stamp from Impression Obsession called Spatter to add subtle texture to the sand. I used white texture paste to add a little sea foam to the edge of the water and sand. For finishing touches I added white gel pen details to the images, black Glaze pen to the critters’ noses, clear Spectrum Noir pen to add sparkle to the sand and the some of the images, and foam tape to pop them up for added dimension. Scene cards are always a little more effort, but so worth it! Here’s a close up:

  7. Vellum & kraft paper … I remember when those were super popular and it’s great to see they’re still being used, I love how you created your card with them! I also live the added touch of the beach towel!! ❤

    • Funny story on the beach towel…. I originally planned to have this scene on a panel smaller than the card, and use the patterned paper I made the towel from as the mat behind the scene. So I colored all the images to coordinate. Once I collected my colored images, I quickly realized I was going to need more real estate for the scene. I tried to fight it for awhile, determined to use that paper! Finally I resolved to let the card do what it wanted to do but was so pleased with myself when I thought to cut the beach towel and ink the edges!!! So you don’t know how happy it makes me that you liked that aspect 💗💗💗 Thank you so much for the super sweet comment!

  9. This is such a cute little scene! I really like how you added that beach towel. And you did a great job with the sea foam. My attempts to add it on my cards were driving me crazy 😅

    • I could totally sympathize cause I tried several things on a scrap before landing on texture paste! I tried white gel pen first, then white embossing powder with a Versamark pen, which was better but not right. I was so glad I remembered I had texture paste. Glitter texture paste would have been pretty too, if it dries opaque. The only ones I had dried semitransparent so I didn’t even test them out. You know, you could totally go over the white gel pen with texture paste. It will cover it quite well. Just get some on your finger and dab it on! And that towel was my sheer stubbornness to use that paper! I selected it before even stamping so I could color the images to match and use it as a mat to my scene. Then it quickly became apparent that I needed the scene to be bigger so as to not crowd the images. I fought to include that paper in so many ways and finally settled on hand cutting a beach towel! Sometimes the cards just have a mind of their own!
