I unmounted all of my wood mount stamps in batches. Christmas stamps were the first to get done, cause I wanted to make sure they would get more use than they have sitting in a drawer collecting dust. Now my Christmas wood mounts are in stamp pockets, grouped by manufacturer when possible. Today’s card uses a 1999 stamp made by a company called DeNami Designs, who is amazingly *still* in business! I don’t know the name of this stamp or if it is still available, though I suspect the design is retired. I heat embossed the image in white on a 4×6″ card base made of watercolor cardstock. Then I painted the image and sentiment with Gansai Tambi watercolor paints. I love the simplicity of this stamp and the card itself.

What a great idea!! I NEVER use my wood mounted stamps, mainly because they are so hard to get to! I might have to do the same; then they would be more easily accessible and would take up much less room! And your card is fabulous! I love the look of those trees! I’m so glad I unmounted these in time to use them for the holidays! If you do it, you’ll find the harder the rubber is to get off, the more thought you give to how many times you are likely to use it. LOL I was fortunate that most of the Christmas stamps cooperated with me, but I stopped there when the next batch I tried was a bit more hesitant to get with the plan! I have them boxed to bring to the kitchen where I can nuke them in the microwave to loosen the adhesive on the rubber. Good luck if you do it! I promise you won’t regret doing it when you see how much space you save!

That’s such a gorgeous CAS design, Karen. I’ve unmounted most of my wood mounted stamps for the same reason as you, and it’s been great to rediscover some of my very first stamp purchases, which I am now using again. I have some dating back to the early 1980s! So glad you dusted off this lovely stamp and shared it with us at Stamping Sensations!

Jo, I promise… once the wood blocks are out of the house you will never regret it! Seeing all the blocks in one pile is a little worrisome, but as long as you stamp an index of the image in the pocket or binder you store the stamp in, you will be so pleased with the results and all the space you can reclaim. I was in awe of how little space the images took up after I eliminated the blocks!!! I was able to clear an entire shelf of a stand size closet… not only that, I can actually find and use my stamps easily now instead of digging through baskets of piled stamps. And I feel like the rubber will be better maintained when its not in a jumbled pile where the wood of another block can make an indentation in the image of another stamp. Do it!

I think of this stamp as a treasure too! As I unmounted the Christmas stamps, I worked first on the ones I knew would be used for years, so that if I grew weary of the process it would be the least favorites to be donated or given away. I had to stop myself from using this one as soon as it was unmounted! LOL I did use it the same day it was unmounted, sort of like a reward for the hard work of unmounting 20 year old stamps!
