My Favorite Things had a couple of challenges this week that I miraculously thought I could pull off… in one card! Take a look!
I used the My Favorite Things Delightful Deer dies to cut the deer in white and inked them with a few shades of brown inks. I whipped up an ink blended circle background with Distress Oxides in Carved Pumpkin, Wild Honey, Pumice Stone, and a hint of Hickory Smoke, and matted it on another circle inked with Pumice Stone. I cut some snow drifts to use as my border and inked them as well. The bottom of the front panel is stamped with MFT’s Sweater Stitch background with Pumice Stone to match the rest of the card. The sentiment is from MFT’s Jingle All the Way (!).
Side note: I keep my Christmas stamps separate for ease of buying out my holiday cards, but I never would have found this sentiment if it hadn’t been for cataloging my stamps in Evernote! I love that when I make a card and need the perfect sentiment, I can search my digital catalog / inventory by keyword, theme, or manufacturer. This turned out to be *the* perfect stamp, the right message and the right size. I use Evernote for so much, both crafty and life purposes. One day I ought to do a post on that as I think it would help those struggling to remember what they have or those that accidentally purchase multiples. Leave me a comment if you would be interested in learning more!
I am submitting this card to the following challenges:
- My Favorite Things – Color Challenge #126
- My Favorite Things – Sketch Challenge #457
- As You Like It – Favorite Style CAS or FAF and why – So my cards used to be very FAF with lots of layers but I stopped cardmaking for several years and when I came back to it I felt very drawn to CAS cards and enjoy the challenge of refining design with so few elements.
- The House That Stamps Built/Repeat Impressions – DCC0219 Circles
- Die Cut Divas – Fall or Fall Colors
- Try It On Tuesday – Animal Magic
- Ike’s World – Color Challenge
- Crafty Cardmakers – #242 Add a Critter
- Happy Little Stampers – Anything Goes with Dies
Beautifully done, Karen! Great job with the colors. I love the deer on an autumn card sine we mostly see them for Christmas and winter.

Here in north Georgia deer are a constant. Our property is very wooded and not fenced, so every day we see them roaming through the woods. One of dogs almost made “friends” with one. They stood about 15-20 feet apart just watching each other intently, but eventually the deer decided it would probably not be wise to get much closer. I’m sure it thought she was the strangest looking deer ever!

This is so adorable!! Such a great take on the sketch and the color combo! I really need to do a catalog of my sentiment stamps as I am sure there are a lot I would use if I just remembered I had them! Thanks for playing with The House That Stamps Built.

Thanks for entering the AYLI challenge with your fabulous card. I’ve looked at evernote for cataloguing craft supplies but never got round to starting, I know quite a few people who use it

I know it seems like a daunting task to start, but once you get started you get into a rhythm and it goes quicker than you would imagine. I love that it is totally customizable, so you can set it up the way *you* think, if that makes sense. No predetermined labels/tags or format. I’ve seen other apps supposedly designed for crafting inventory, but it doesn’t work the way my brain does so it wouldn’t be right for me. I love that Evernote is on both my phone and PC so when I’m at stores, I can easily access it to avoid duplicates, but when entering new goodies, I can use my computer keyboard and see everything full screen. Before making new purchases I not only look to see if I already bought it, but I look at similar sets in my stash. Seriously, how many butterfly stamps do you need? I look to see if I have something similar or if the new item would enhance my collection vs repeating it. If you ever decide to do it, check in with me and I can offer some tips!

WOW! This is absolutely a perfect card! I love the color of the background behind the deer and those little “hills” they’re standing on. Just perfect in every way. I’m thinking maybe I need those deer now. LOVE your card Karen!

Wow Lynn, that was so sweet!!! I had a lot of fun making this fall/early winter card and playing with my dies for once instead of just my stamps. Its so hard to share the love amongst all my supplies!!! I was just thinking I’ve neglected the stencils lately so I will have to break them out soon. 😁

I was tickled to see the deer with non-Christmas colors in the Diva’s gallery. And a punny sentiment to boot!

So glad you liked it! Where I live in northern Georgia, we have lots of woods and the deer are everywhere! To me, deer aren’t just for Christmas, though it is really fun to see all their tracks in the snow during the winter when we’re lucky enough to get some snowfall. And this sentiment was perfect for a friend that has been just the support I needed lately! I love it when real life coordinates with card challenges ☺
