Bouquet of Thanks for a Friend

MisplacedMojo

So, my BFF is about to face the biggest challenge of her life thus far… her one and only child, now 18 years old, is leaving for college and not only that, she’s leaving this weekend so she can attend a summer session. She’s going to need something… anything… to make her smile when she gets home from dropping her daughter off at the university. I hope this will do that, though I know it won’t… can’t… fill the void. There is only so much I can do from 600 miles away.

For this CAS card, I was inspired by the CAS Colours & Sketch Challenge for the choice in colors, and I think this regal color palette will appeal to my bestie more than the card from a couple days ago. The stamp and sentiment is from SSS’s Bouquet of Thanks, and I love the large image that required no masking. Once again, I used Prismacolor pencils to color my image (greens 908 & 911, purples 932 & 1008, and corals 921 & 922). I find pencils are great for what I call Couch Crafting… a way I can remain crafty while hanging with my family in the living room. My couch crafting has gotten a little complicated this week with the addition of a new puppy to our family, but so far the only thing she’s gotten into were my cup of pencil shavings!

    • Thank you!!! My own son the same age as my friend’s has decided to stay home another year and attend the local community college but plans to transfer to a university the following year. I cried tears of joy because I was SO not ready for him to leave. We get along very well and spend a lot of time together. His absence will be very noticeable. I hope after 3 years it has gotten easier for you and doesn’t hurt all over again if/when he comes home for breaks! Please give me hope that we’ll survive this!

  6. I love the rich colours in your bouquet. I admire your ability to colour with pencils – I don’t think I have the patience to do such a great job. I like the clean look of the card too. The white space lets the flowers speak for themselves. Thank you for joining in with us at Retro Rubber Challenge.

    • Wow, thanks! I’m nowhere to the point I want to be with the pencils. I have shading often fail to keep a highlight. I’ll let you in on a tip if you like this look though. I used Bristol paper which the experts claim as bad for pencils… not enough tooth. However I find it goes really fast and the paper takes a lot of color so you get the really vivid and solid look. It really took no time to color on this paper.
